Team GBR finish 2nd overall as FEI Nations Cup of Eventing concludes

FEI Nations Cup™ Eventing

The 2017 FEI Nations Cup series concluded this weekend at the popular Boekelo Horse Trials, Netherlands, from 5th – 8th October.

Heading to the series decider in first place on 590 points, Great Britain had an advantage of just 10 points over their closest competitors Germany; however it wasn’t to be for the British team as sadly just one combination in the squad of four completed which saw them finish in 10th place at the final leg. Boekelo provided an exciting four days of competition and gave the New Zealand team the leg win with Germany finishing second and Australia third. Germany’s runner-up spot at the final event topped their Nations Cup points total up to 670 and was enough to take the 2017 series title, dropping GB into second place on 590 ahead of France in third on 390 points.

The Beokelo CCI3* went to Tim Price and Cekatinka who helped the New Zealand Nations Cup team to their first place, whilst individual British rider Dani Evans claimed the best finish for the GB camp in fifth place on Luana Edge’s Smart Time.

For the GB Nations Cup squad, Holly Woodhead posted he only completion score coming home with a double clear on Parkfield Breeding’s British-bred Parkfield Quintessential. Both Tom McEwen (Fred and Penny Barker’s Strike Smartly) and Matthew Heath (Hazel Livesey’s Colley Lord Lux) produced a clear cross country round but sadly withdrew before the final horse inspection and Laura Collett unfortunately suffered a fall on the cross country from Maggie Sargent’s Cooley Again which ended their campaign.
