The Summer Regional Championships that took place last week at Port Royal EC in East Yorkshire were a shining success despite unpredictable weather and summer storms (21 – 23 July).

Mount St John extended their Regional Championship hit rate with Lucinda Elliot and MSJ Furstin Fugger (pictured) taking home two titles. The elegant black mare danced through the rain to win the Childéric Saddles Elementary Gold scoring 72.29% finishing just ahead of Rebecca Hughes with her own and Julia Hornig’s Classic Goldstrike. Lucinda and ‘Fiji’s’ second win came in the TopSpec Medium Gold where they earned another fantastic score of 71.71%. The six-year-old Fürst Heinrich mare is a full sister to premium stallion and multiple Bundeschampionate winner Fürst Fugger. Mount St John will be hoping to emulate Fürst Fugger's success at our own LeMieux National Championships where they have already qualified for no less than 10 tests.

The highest score of the show went to Young Rider Erin Williams aboard her impressive black stallion Guinness B. The pair stormed to victory by almost four percent in the Dodson and Horrell Novice Gold to win with 74.44%.

Speaking to British Dressage about her ‘absolute dream’ six-year-old Erin said, ‘we did a really clean test with a nice flow and activity and better accuracy from me, this time I was actually on the centre line! He really worked with me and one judge said it was a pleasure to judge.’ Erin is aiming to work her way up to Prix St Georges in the next year but is focusing entirely on her exciting Summer National debut in the short term.

Another young horse to see success was Hokey Catoki ridden by Amy Pickard. The five-year-old repeated his success in the Winter Regionals adding another title to his collection, this time in a huge BackinAction Preliminary Silver class. Amy and ‘Oakie’ scored 72.36% to top the podium ahead of Leanne Cameron in second and Sarah MacDonald in third.

Repeating her wins at Somerford Park, Becky Moody wrapped up her Regionals and scored another double with Jo Cooper’s Eureko and Laura Jarvis’s Contender in the Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges Gold and the Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediare I Gold.

Congratulations to all qualified competitors and to all those who braved the weather to take part. British Dressage would like to thank Port Royal EC and all volunteers, sponsors and organisers for an exciting Regional Championships.
