Ahead of this year's FEI Young Rider European Championships at Strzegom, Poland (27-30 August 2015) and following the Equi-Trek Bramham Hselectors of the British Young Rider squad have now made their provisional long list for the British squad.
In 2012. long listed rider Sophie How won both Individual and Team Gold in Strezgom as a Junior Rider and claimed this year’s Askham Bryan National Young Rider Championship at Houghton International. Sophie's fellow 2012 Junior team mates Bella Innes Ker and Emily King have also made this year’s Young Rider long list.
Emily King has had a busy and successful 2015 so far winning the Askham Bryan College sponsored OIu21 classes with Loxley at both Aldon International (1) and Aston-le-Walls (2), in addition to taking fifth and sixth at the Askham Bryan National Young Rider Championship on Charlemagne and Loxley respectively. Emily has also campaigned two three star rides this season with a third place at Chatsworth CIC3* on Brookleigh.
2014 winners and 2015 Askham Bryan National Young Rider Championship runners up, Will Furlong and Livingstone II have also previously enjoyed three star success with an eighth place in at Breda, The Netherlands in 2014.
Chairman of Selectors for the Young Rider squad, Alex Colquhoun said: “The selectors are delighted to announce the long list for the Askham Bryan sponsored GB squad for the European Championships in Poland after watching some very satisfactory performances in the National U21 champs at Houghton last weekend.”
The provisional long list for the 2015 Askham Bryan Young Rider squad is as follows in alphabetical order:
Sophie Beaty 19, from Northamptonshire with Stanly, 16 year old bay gelding by Iroko and owned by Alison Booth and rider and also Pink Gin, 14 year old chestnut roan gelding by Ghareeb and owned by Mr Stuart Beaty.
Abigail Boulton 20, from Staffordshire with Tilston Tic Toc, 13 year old bay gelding by Quebec and owned by Mrs Lucy Boulton.
Will Furlong 20, from East Sussex with Livingstone II, 12 year old dark brown gelding by Lavall II and owned by rider.
Imogen Gloag 20, from Oxfordshire with Brendonhill Doublet, 14 year old bay gelding by Future Role and owned by rider.
Kristina Hall-Jackson 18, from West Yorkshire with Lemington Lets Dance, 17 year old dark bay gelding, British-bred by Court Croner and owned by Judy Bradwell.
Ella Hitchman 19, from Gloucestershire with Rocky Rockstar, 12 year old grey gelding by Rockland and owned by rider.
Anna Horton 19, Wiltshire with Barones II, 9 year old dark bay mare by Concorde and owned by Craig Horton and rider.
Sophie How 20, from Northamptonshire with Bojangles HRS, 9 year old bay gelding by Unesco and owned by Hows Racesafe.
Bella Innes Ker 20, from Roxburghshire with Carolyn, 11 year old bay mare by Connery and owned by the Duchess of Roxburghshire.
Emily King 19, from Devon with Loxley, 11 year old chestnut gelding of unknown breeding and owned by Michelle Clough and Zara Porter Hill and Charlemagne, 8 year old bay gelding by Lord Z and owned by Lord Patrick Beresford.
Katherine Lindsay 18, from Fife with Cooley Ramiro, 8 year old bay gelding by Ramiro B and owned by Lady Balniel.
Holly Woodhead 21, from North Yorkshire with DHI Lupison, 11 year old chestnut gelding by Lupicor and owned by Mrs Heidi and Mr Ian Woodhead.
The Young Rider Selectors retain the right to amend this list at any time.
