British Eventing Young Horse Training Programme returns

This year will see the return of the British Eventing (BE) Young Horse Training and thanks to funding from the BE Breeding Committee, training dates are to increase from six to eight days in 2016.

Open to young horses aged between four and seven years at all stages, the training is the perfect preparation for horses aiming to compete in BE classes throughout 2016. Delivered by BE Accredited Coaches, training days begin with a combined flatwork and show jumping session in small groups.

The afternoon sessions consist of cross country practice including some of the technical questions that horses are likely to encounter when competing. Groups are set with horses matched by ability and not age, giving both horses and riders the opportunity to get the best from the day.

The dates are also designed to set combinations up for BE Young Horse Classes and those potentially looking to qualify for the KBIS BE Young Horse Championships, hosted at Osberton International Horse Trials (29th September – 2nd October 2016).The BE Young Horse Training was trialled in 2014 with an aim to strengthen young horses’ preparation to compete in BE, to develop good understanding of training young horses and improve safety and welfare.

It is hoped that BE young horse training will play a significant part in ensuring horses in the UK reach their full potential within the sport by giving them the best start possible. This year’s KBIS sponsored British Eventing Young Horse Championships for four, five, six and seven year olds returns to Osberton International Horse Trials from 29th September – 2nd October, by kind permission of Mr Michael Foljambe.

The event also boasts in-hand breeding classes, international classes and a wealth of attractions to make for a great sporting day out.
