Overturned horse trailer closes M40


The M40 came to a standstill on Sunday afternoon and was closed between junction 2 and 4 after a horse trailer carrying two horses overturned.

One horse was trapped in the trailer, one escaped fom the incident jumped over  the central reservation and headed along the opposite carriageway sparking a chase to catch the frightened horse and get it under control..

All of the emergency services attended the scene including an emergency vet -ambulance crews later confirmed there were no human casualties and one woman assessed by paramedics did not need to be taken to hospital.

Thames Valley Police said both horses had to be sedated in order to keep them calm while they were rescued, but they were "safe and well".
