Dump your dumbbells and bin your boxing gloves, because there’s a new fitness trend that’s keeping Instagram’s most-followed models in shape.
You might not have donned your jodhpurs since you were eight years old, but horse riding is enjoying a major resurgence, thanks to celebrities like Kendall Jenner,Gigi Hadid, Edie Campbell and Amanda Murphy.
Gigi and her sister Bella Hadid - a champion equestrian whose family lived on a horse ranch for 10 years - have made no secret about their love of the hobby.
Bella has credited her horses for evoking a sense of ease in front of the camera, while both models have posted snaps of their favourite equine friends on Instagram.
In an interview last month, Kendall told The Evening Standard that horseback riding was her favourite way to keep in shape before a big modelling gig - and scrolling through her Instagram, it’s easy to see the leg-toning benefits.
But not only is it good for getting your body in shape ahead of summer, horse riding is also being touted as the next big mindfulness trend.
Studies have proved that equine-assisted therapy can relieve negative emotions, with horse riders gaining greater self-esteem and the ability to stay in the present while practising the hobby.
Horses are also extremely sensitive animals, and their otherworldly sense of calm can relieve stress and evoke a sense of calm, according to experts.
Learning to work with your horse can also be psychologically rewarding, particularly when you overcome your nerves and start to command the horse without the help of an instructor.
