Yasmin Ingham this year wins the Goldman Cup for the leading BE rider aged under 21. On a total of 346 BE Points, Yasmin takes the prestigious title ahead of the winner from the previous two years, Sam Ecroyd, and Bubby Upton who, for a second year in a row, finishes in third place.
Yasmin’s successful season concluded recently with the completion of her first four star at Les 4 Etoiles de Pau, in France, where she took 16th place on her own Night Line. The 21 year old who originally hails from the Isle of Man, also won the NAF Under 21 Championships at Houghton Hall and finished in fourth place at the 2018 Young Rider European Championships on Janette Chinn and Edwin and Sue Davies’ Rehy DJ.
On her win, Yasmin commented; “I started off the 2018 season with only two horses to event; my own Night Line, who I aimed to gain my 4* qualification on, [and] I also had Rehy DJ, a lovely eight year old which was bought for me to compete at the age of six by my very supportive and generous owners Eddie and Sue Davies and Janette Chinn.
“In the middle of the season, my owners bought two more horses for me to compete - Buckle End Bertie on whom I won an OI at Kelsall in September and the lovely Sandman 7 from Pippa Funnell, who I am extremely lucky to have the ride on - we have only done a few competitions together, but had a great second place in the CCI2* at Osberton International Horse Trials.
“All four of my horses have played their part in my success this year, and I cannot thank their owners enough for their support of me and their trust in me to ride their horses.
“The Goldman Cup is something every under 21 rider would love to win, and to win it in my last year of Under 21’s is extremely rewarding. I haven’t had a large string of horses, and don’t run them too often, but this year has been all about consistency, focus and working towards goals. I’ve had my best year yet and can’t thank my owners, team, supporters and sponsors enough.”
Yasmin’s win this year stopped 21 year old Sam Ecroyd from making the Goldman Cup his for a third year in a row as he takes second place on 333 BE Points. Highlights for Sam this year included his fifth place at Chatsworth International CIC3* on Mrs Jane Del Missier’s Cooley Currency and third in the Bramham International CIC3* under 25.
Thanks to a win in the Belton Park International CIC2* and the Fairfax and Favour Rockingham International Open Intermediate Under 21 class, 19 year old Bubby Upton amassed a total of 265 BE Points this year to make it a second year a row finishing in third place in the Goldman Cup.
